Seattle Pacific answered the most dangerous moment of its road match with a winning goal. Maddie Cooke scored in the 75th minute as the Falcons beat Central Washington 2–1 in Ellensburg on October 15. The match was played at Steve Hertling Field at Tomlinson Stadium.

The result is recorded in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s results and Seattle Pacific’s official recap. SPU moved to 8–3–2 overall and 5–2–2 in conference play, keeping a productive run moving before another road assignment.

A lead, an equalizer, an answer

The Falcons went ahead in the 27th minute through Raeah Raymondo, with Logann Dukes credited with the assist. Central Washington drew level through Jaylee Reynolds in the 71st minute, briefly turning the closing stretch into a test of Seattle Pacific’s response.

Cooke restored the lead four minutes later following an SPU corner. The interval between the two goals mattered: the Falcons did not have to spend the remainder of the match chasing a lost advantage.

Expectations and the coach’s perspective

In the school’s published recap, head coach Arby Busey praised the Falcons’ work rate and competitiveness in a difficult road setting. That is the coach’s documented assessment, rather than a claim based on an interview conducted by Rain City Sports.

Our analysis: an immediate response after conceding is encouraging because it preserves both the result and the team’s ability to make proactive decisions. It does not establish that every part of the performance was controlled, or that another opponent will offer the same route back.

What needs to improve

Seattle Pacific’s next challenge is making a one-goal advantage less vulnerable. That does not mean automatically retreating. Useful possession, a forward outlet and disciplined positioning behind the ball can all reduce the pressure on the next defensive action.

Cooke’s winner offers an example of the value of remaining an attacking threat after a setback. The coaching task is retaining that ambition while reducing the circumstances in which another late goal becomes necessary. That is our editorial recommendation, not an unreported statement from the staff.

What comes next

The Falcons continue to Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, October 17. SPU’s recap lists a 2 p.m. start at NNU Soccer Field; readers should consult the host’s match listing for local-time details.

The win in Ellensburg is useful on its own. Its broader significance will depend on whether Seattle Pacific can carry the same competitive response into the next match while improving how it protects an advantage.
