Seattle Pacific finished Thursday’s volleyball match with its clearest stretch of control. The Falcons beat Saint Martin’s 3–1 on October 15, winning 25–23, 25–20, 23–25, 25–13 to move to 13–5 overall and 8–2 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
Amaya Evans led SPU with 20 kills on .514 hitting. Megan Omlid and Maiya Lester added 13 kills each, Peyton Ensign distributed 47 assists, and Christina Lopez supplied 20 digs. Charlotte Hastings’ five aces gave the Falcons another way to build pressure.
Close sets, then a decisive response
The opening sets required Seattle Pacific to answer Saint Martin’s runs. The Falcons won the second after trailing 20–19, taking the final six points to establish a two-set advantage.
Saint Martin’s extended the match by taking the third, with Emily Garten’s final kill of the set also establishing the Saints’ career kills record. Seattle Pacific then opened the fourth with seven unanswered points and closed it 25–13.
The match was hosted at Evergreen State College in Olympia, as identified in Saint Martin’s event-specific announcements.
What the performance says
The final statistics favor Seattle Pacific well beyond the set count. SPU hit .295 to Saint Martin’s .164 and finished with a 62–44 advantage in kills. Those numbers support an assessment of stronger sustained attacking production, while the close early sets show that the result still required effective finishes.
Our analysis: the fourth set is the strongest evidence of how Seattle Pacific responded to a lost opportunity. Instead of allowing the third-set defeat to turn into a drawn-out contest, the Falcons created immediate separation and kept the match from reaching a fifth.
What needs to improve
The first three set margins leave a useful coaching question: how can SPU create that separation earlier? The answer should come from reviewing its first contact, attacking options and ability to earn the next point after an opponent’s run.
That is an editorial recommendation, rather than an attributed player or coach statement. The published result establishes the execution; it does not establish what was said in a timeout or how either locker room interpreted the match.
What comes next
The GNAC schedule lists Seattle Pacific at Western Oregon on Saturday, October 17, at 1 p.m. Pacific. The aim should be to retain Thursday’s attacking efficiency while giving the next opponent fewer chances to recover late in a set.
