A late equalizer protects the home record

Seattle University drew 1–1 with Loyola Marymount on Saturday, October 24, at Championship Field. Kailee Wilson scored in the 84th minute to answer the Lions’ first-half lead and keep the Redhawks unbeaten at home in 2026.

Seattle U finished the night 9–4–4 overall and 3–1–2 in conference play. The official WCC results list corroborates the draw. It was a point recovered late, although Seattle’s attacking totals also leave a reasonable question about whether more could have been earned.

Wilson turns pressure into a goal

LMU scored in the 23rd minute and held the lead through halftime. Wilson’s equalizer was her team-leading eighth goal of the season. Seattle U’s match report credits her with five attempts, four on target, as the Redhawks pursued a response.

The hosts finished with a 23–10 advantage in shots and a 7–2 edge in corners. Kassidy Kirgan made two saves. Those figures establish attacking activity and the goalkeeping contribution behind the result, without explaining the quality of every attempt or the cause of every missed chance.

What needs to improve

Analysis: the Redhawks’ clearest priority is to turn more of that pressure into goals before the closing minutes. A high shot count is useful only when it creates enough difficult saves or finishes. Reviewing the final pass, shooting position and support around the shooter is more constructive than assuming that every unsuccessful attempt should have scored.

Analysis: there is also value in the response itself. Seattle U kept pursuing the game after falling behind and eventually converted. Preserving that persistence while improving the efficiency of the attack would give the Redhawks a better chance of turning another close conference match into a win.

The evidence behind the assessment

The school’s published account emphasizes Wilson’s finishing and Seattle U’s unbeaten home record. It contains no postmatch coach or player quotation. The assessment here rests on those documented events and the final statistics, rather than attributing an unreported message to the dressing room.

Portland awaits

Seattle U travels to Portland on Wednesday, October 28. Analysis: the task away from Championship Field is to make the attack count earlier while keeping the defensive structure that allowed a late equalizer to matter. Saturday showed the Redhawks could rescue a result. The next step is to spend less of the match needing to do so.
